Morikeba and Patrick play the kora, a 21-string harp that originated in the Mandinka culture of West Africa around the 16th century. The kora is the quintessential instrument of the jali (griots), the caste of storytellers, musicians and oral historians. The form and function of the kora allow for strong rhythmic elements to be overlaid with polyrhythmic tonal structures. Instrumental kora music was traditionally played for Mandinka royalty as a meditative form of relaxation, concentration and inspiration. Advance registration is appreciated but not required. Bring anything that makes you happy and comfortable!
